About Academic Decathlon
The Catholic Academic Junior High Decathlon is an academic competition that brings together students from Catholic schools for a day of learning, teamwork, and friendly competition.
Students in grades 5–8 prepare throughout the school year to represent their school across ten academic events. The Decathlon combines individual knowledge with team problem-solving, giving students opportunities to develop their academic strengths while learning how to work together toward a common goal.
The Ten Events
Individual Events
Eight events are completed individually by members of the team. These events cover a variety of academic subjects and allow students to develop expertise in a particular area:
Team Events
Logic Quiz challenges students to work together to solve problems involving logical, mathematical, verbal, and visual reasoning.
Super Quiz brings the team together to answer questions based on the year's designated academic topics and study materials.
Together, the ten events make Academic Decathlon both an individual and team experience. Every student has an important role in the team's success.
More Than a Competition
Our goal at St. Catherine of Siena School is not simply to prepare students for competition day.
Throughout the season, students encounter new subjects, challenging problems, puzzles, games, projects, and team activities. They learn to approach unfamiliar problems, communicate their ideas, listen to different perspectives, and adjust their strategies when something doesn't work.
Students don't need to begin the season as experts. Academic Decathlon provides an opportunity to discover new interests, develop confidence, and contribute their individual strengths to a team.
